black eyed babies

Ciella before surgery! Isn't she cute!!!

Ciella after her first surgery surgery...

Ciella had a cyst removed by her left eye. So here's our story, we went in at 7 am on Thursday the 12th of July for surgery. She had her small and very simple surgery and we were home by 9:30am. She seemed to be doing fine, slowly i started noticing some swelling. Which i assumed to be normal. Minute by minute the swelling grew, until she couldn't open her eye. I called several times and the nurses assured me it was normal. But something didn't feel quite right. Eventually it got to the point that the wound(with 7 or 8 stitches) started to bleed.

Ciella about 1 hour before her second surgery! the picture just doesn't do her eye justice. it looked like a golf ball was under her skin over her eye brow!
So finally its like 3:30 that afternoon and her tears are starting to come out red! not a good sign. Garrett and I finally decide that this is just too much swelling, and i call again for the 6th time! No joking 6 times i called! Finally the nurse gives in and says she'll page our doctor. So maybe 2 minutes later the nurse calls back and says "the Dr will see you right now!" so we drop everything and rush down to see him. so we met him at his office and he was really glad we did because it was way more swollen then it should have been. In fact he says this is really bad and he gave us two options, #1. we can hold her down there in his office with out any numbing stuff and open up her wound and let whatever is causing all the swelling out, it will hurt her but its the better option. Or, option #2. rush down for an emergency surgery to release the pressure. Well as much as we didn't want to, we held her down and he tryed to released the pressure. by that i mean he took a long probing tool and stuck it into her wound, cut the stitches and blood came pouring out. after doing this for about 2 to 3 minutes the doc says this isn't working and we need to rush to an emergency surgery!!!!! All this time you can imagine our little baby girl is screaming, I'm sure she was terrified as you can imagine and in a lot of pain! it was one of the hardest things Garrett and i have had to do thus far!!! Garrett was holding her feet(Iwas holding her in my arms layed back in a chair) and in his words he says "ciella is screaming like ive never heard her scream before, she was terrified and in horrible pain at the same time. then the doctor starts to push on her eyelid, hard really hard to get the blood to come out he's doing this for literally 2 or 3 minutes. at this point i have turned my head away and cannot look. tears are dripping off my nose but I can't let go of ciella's legs. then I look up and ciella is looking straight at me with an expression (beneath the horrifying screams) like 'why are you letting him do this to me." it was so sad!!!
back to the story...
so we jump in the car and race to the surgery center, the surgery center is already closed but they have to stay late because this is an emergency. the anesthesiologist comes out and says this is very dangerous to put her under again today as well as dangerous because she had eaten earlier and then there is a chance of throwing up and getting some in her lungs and then getting an extremely bad phenomena. but she says that at this point we really don't have a choice. so Garrett signs all these papers and they pull, literally pull Ciella from my arms screaming. so we wait out in the waiting room for about an hour. finally the doctor comes out and says everything is okay. what had happened is during the first surgery a small artery was cut open or something like that (in all the commotion we aren't really sure why there was so much bleeding, but will ask at our check-up in a few days). Anyways basically her face was swelling up with blood. it was so scary, but we are glad it is over. After her second surgery she came home with an eye patch which was removed the next day. she has no idea anything happened to her eye. It hasn't seemed to bother her at all!

So this is Ciella 1 full day after her second surgery! It looks so sad.

Ohmigoodness! That is CRAZY!!! She looks so cute though, even though one of her eyes is black and purple. What else is crazy is how cute she is!!! Are you kidding, she's so cute! How do you like all my exclamation marks?! I'm glad everything is okay now.

Oh Melanie... That is so sad. Doesn't it bring you back to the good old days at Provo pediatric? Oh but with your own child it is so hard that just breaks your heart. I would have been crying too. I sorry.
